Add Money to the Parking Meter by Phone
San Francisco introduced "PaybyPhone", a system that allows you to pay with a smartphone app that's available for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry.
If you don't have a smart phone, you can also call a "PaybyPhone" toll-free phone number and dial your way to pay. Each meter has a serial number that identifies the parking location. This makes it convenient to add money to your meter without having to return to your car.
Each transaction costs $0.45.
Each meter has a sticker with a toll free number:
The meter's serial number or "location number" looks like this:
Remember, metered parking have time limits, so simply adding more money to the meter by phone, coins, or by other means is not a foolproof way to keep the meter maid away. That is, extending parking by a half hour by adding money when you've already parked 2 hours at a 2 hour limit parking spot won't prevent you from getting a ticket.
